Newspaper clippings with data on Davis' political career in the Minnesota legislature and the U.S. Congress, biographical information, and obituaries for Davis, and newspaper clippings on John A. Johnson, and on Henry Poehler. A letter from Davis to his daughter (1880) concerns family matters, and a letter from Davis during his service as a representative in the U.S. Congress to "Dear Sir" (1908) asks that publicity on Davis' agricultural and industrial school bill be given to the press. Also included is a postcard showing Davis introducing Taft to the people of Northfield, Minnesota (1908).

Charles R. Davis was born in Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, on September 17, 1849. In 1854, the family settled in Le Sueur County, Minnesota. Davis studied law and was admitted to the bar in March, 1872. He began his law practice in St. Peter, Minnesota. Davis served in the Minnesota House of Representatives, 1889-1890, the Minnesota Senate, 1891-1895, and as Congressman from Minnesota's Third Congressional District, 1903-1925.
